Why doesn't TFP501 have HPD (Hot Plug Detect) pin ????

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP501

Hi, all:

In the reference design SLLA134, the HPD pin (pin 16 of DVI connector) of a DVI connector is not connected to any pin of TFP501, as the following figure shows

only the data lines and DDC signals are connected.

So, does this mean TFP501 is not supposed to take care of the implementation of HPD mechanism, i have to design another circuit to satisfy the HPD requirement??????????????????

like the following (??)  :

Background of my circuit:

The general circuit is used to convert  "DVI / HDMI" to "VGA"

Notes:

VCC_PWR = 5.0V

2N7002 is NPN MOSFET

Pin 5 (according to pinout table of VGA connector, pin 5 should be ground) of VGA connector is used to drive 2N7002, such that:

when VGA is not connected,    HPD = 0

when VGA is connected, HPD = 1

Hence,  the HPD requirement is realized by 2N7002

Is the idea correct ????????

pls help !!!

  • Hello,

The TFP501 is not involved in the HPD mechanism, it only takes the HDMI input and convert it in parallel RGB, the HPD mechanism is implemented by the Video_Sink and the HDMI_TX, see below picture.

The TFP501 does not convert HDMI to VGA.
