Why separating TX&RX channels to two DS100DF410?

Hi all,

I am designing one custom board by using 66AK2H14's XFI interface to connect retimer device DS100DF410 and then to SFP Plus module for 10GBE-SR application.

Now I got a reference design which verified by TI employee by connecting EVMK2H with 66AK2H14 and Mistral RTM-BOC with retimer device.

In the schematics of MIstral RTM-BOC, two 66AK2H14's XFI TX channels are connected to one retimer and two 66AK2H14's XFI RX channels are connected to another retimer.

It is showed as bellow

I mean why the two TX channles and the two RX channels are separated by using two retimer deveices DS100DF410.

I think it could be implemented by using one retimer to connect two XFI's TX channels and two XFI's RX channels.

In my custom design, for PCB layout consideration, I can not add any more devices on it.

So can I use one retimer device DS100DF410 to connect two XFI's TX channels and RX channels together?

Regards,

Feng
