MAX3232 / Is charge pump brokn?

Hi all,

We have a problem about MAX3232EIPWR in our customer's product. Please see the attached picture.

- Ch1 : Din1 / Din2
- Ch2 : Dout1
- Ch3 : Dout2

Measure conditions are follows.
- Vcc : 3.3V
- Dinx : 3.3Vpp / 1kHz

This individual can't makes +5V. I guess the V+ charge-pump of this individual is broken.
We tried measurement to using the curve-tracer and X-ray camera for it.
However, we could not find the issue.

I have tow questions.
- Is fault location the V+ charge pump?
- Know the same precedent?

I'll start by answering your two questions.
Thinking that V+ is bad is a good guess, but I think the issue is caused by something else.
I have never seen this output waveform before. This issue is unique.

I need to see the waveform on V+ pin. Also useful would be waveform C1+, C1-, C2+ and C2-
Does this happen on one board or all boards?

Hi Ron,

Thank you for your reply.
It happened in the one board of end user.
Currently, it is operating normally by the exchange of the IC.
We tried re-measurement to the short-circuit test in our mill.
However, we cant found the error.
This situation was in until now?

Were should we go with this issue now?
Non repeatable problems are rarely solved.

Ronald,

If we can't suggest a counterplan to our customer, they will change the IC to competitor product.

The customer can return the device to the distributor and request a failure analysis.
