How to deal with DP83620 SD pin when it is not used?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83620

Hi team,

My customer KE Electronics is using DP83620 in fiber mode, but their transceiver doesn't have SD pin. so, would you please suggest how to deal with DP83620 SD pin when it is not used? thanks.

Kevin

  • Kevin,

We recommend that the SD pin from the optical module be connected to the SD pin of the DP83620. Without this connection, the DP83620 will not know if data is being received.

However, if the transceiver does not have an SD pin, the DP83620 SD pin can be pulled high via a resistor. 4.7 kOhms would be an appropriate value.

In this configuration, receive errors could occur when the fiber optic cable is removed from the transceiver. Normally signal detect would de-assert and prevent this or minimize it. This may not be an issue in the customer application, but we should make the customer aware of this and recommend that they evaluate this during their testing.
