TPS65982 / VBUS capacitor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982

Hi Team,

The datasheet page.80 shows that a 1uF ceramic capacitor should be placed closed to the TPS65982.
Is the purpose of the capacitor to minimize noise exposure for TPS65982 itself?
Is the capacitor required if TPS65982 supports DFP(host) only?

(datasheet page.80)

  • The 1uF capacitor placed at the TPS65982 is commonly referred to as a de-coupling or bypass capacitor, which can supply small amounts of power to VBUS to prevent drop-out of power if the voltage drop below 4.5V so a disconnect does not occur.

The 4x 10nF capacitors placed at the Type-C connector VBUS pins (A4, A9, B4, B9) are for filtering out higher frequency noise generated through the cable and connectors.
