Faiure to identification of TUSB8041

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8041

Hi All

My customer used TUSB8041 to expand USB port. The former device was upd720201 (PCIe to USB controller).

The schematic would be found in the attached file.

04_Peripheral _ 45_USB HUB.pdf

When a U disk (Sandisk USB3.0) was inserted into  UCB connector then connected to TUSB8041, customer found sometime the U disk didn't be found by the system.

The TUSB8041's Vbus and reset signal were pulled to the normal value until upd70=20201 powered up and work. Is it true?

Would you share your comments to this issue?

Thanks

  • Hello,
I will review the schematic and provide feedback.
Does it happens with multiple USB devices?
Is it easy to reproduce the issue?
Does it happens with USB2.0 devices as well?
    What is the "UCB connector"?

    Regards
  • Hi Elias

Below are the replies on your questions.

    1. Does it happens with multiple USB devices?

Q: Yes, multiple USB device were injected.

    2. Is it easy to reproduce the issue?

    Q:

Not easy to reproduce the issue, maybe need 200 time to restart system.

    3. Does it happens with USB2.0 devices as well?

Q: USB2.0 and USB3.0 devices shared the same failure issue.
    4. What is the "UCB connector"?

    Q:

    Thanks

  • I reviewed the schematic and only found one thing:
The value of the resistor in USB_R1 is too low, that could explain a random failure, please use 9.53k-ohm.
Are the other TUSB8041's downstream ports working well when the Udisk issue happens?
    Regards
  • Hi Elias

The USB_R1 resistor was changed to 9.53kohm but no improvement.

and the orhter tusb8041's downstream port did work well.

    Thanks

  • Hello,
We need a USB protocol trace between the TUSB8041 and the Udisk.
Is the failure present only on that particular port of the Tier-2 TUSB8041? are the audio device and mouse/keyboard working well when the issue happens.
Is the Udisk dropping to USB2.0?
Can you get a scope capture of the RX_Termination polling process?

    Regards
