HD3SS3220 Mux issue

current I am use hd3ss3220 as a mux, and i set it to DRP mode, with ADDR  float, then use a Type A to type C cable connect with the PC( USB3.0 type A rectangle).I measure type A to type C cable . and that is with CC pin pull down with 5.1K. and when connect with the Hd3ss3220,  the cc pin with be about 1.6V(high current mode). yet no matter how i flipped the Type C connector, the mux seems just not work . , and any suggestion?

Thanks for your help.. the other side I connect to a USB Hub chips.. which is VL210... at beginning I planned to do a UFP with the HD3SS3220. yet seems  the cable I use(type A to Type C only have a pull down resistor of 5.1K)  have no pull up resistor , so I wonder if I can set that to DRP mode, after I set to DRP and the voltage on the CC pin is right . unfortunatelly the Mux just not switch ... if I measure the DIr pin . that always high. so I wonder  how could I make the mux  change and . even I use it as UFP if that work well...

     please check the attachment schematic .. any suggestion well be welcome.(please  know that the schematic is in ufp mode. yet indeed I se the port pin floatin g and set to drp mode.)

  • Hello Dayu,

    Your first issue is the cable, because the HD3SS3220 already has its RP and RD integrated (depending on the application DFP, or UFP respectively). What you actually need is a DFP dongle, like the HD3SS2522 in order to have a compliance channel. Also I highly recommend to use the UFP mode, which is the correct one to have in a HUB's upstream port.

    Thanks for you reply. yet what I want to confirm is what the condition does the hd3ss3220 switch port..  in my test even I set the CC1 and CC2 in right voltage , seems  the mux still not work.(just set the hd3ss3220 on drp , and the cable  one CC pin with 5.1K pull down . ) . I think that should not a must that the there have to two Hd3ss3220   to have them worked.

    and obvioustly your are right that my cable  have issue and the board should work in UFP( also I am not confirm if the cable have pull up Ra ,does that will work correct),,,, yet my concern is  the cable should be used for some mobile phone .. and  for some mobil phone application ..  the mobile side should work in drp mode.. and does the hd3ss3220 is suitable . if it is use able  in which condition the hd3220 are swith che mux to fit the same kind of cable I use ..

  • also if the Hd3s3220 not only just the CC lever and will have to confirm a right device to connect with it . then does there any standard for it to think a valid device was insert... or does there any suggestion material for the CC protocols.. that the Hd3s3220 adapt..

    THe HD3SS3220 should work fine on DRP mode. I am a bit confused of your testing, could you share a test procedure & connection diagram? So we can speed up the support.

    Thanks very much for all your help. and   the schematic as the one I upload . and I set  that to work in DRP mode and , then I use an TYPE A to TYPE C connect  the board to PC . , and during  the test the PC can found recognize the USB3.0 HUB  only one side ,, that's the when the CC2 connect to the  cable pull down resistor (CC1 is 5V ,CC2 is 1.6V, while the dir is hight),yet if I flipped the type C connnector) . it  only able to recognize as usb 2.0.. if measure the CC pin , I can found that CC1 is about 1.6V and the CC2 is 5V , and the dir is still keep high level, this means the mux never worked, so I wonder to know in which condition the mux will work  )... and the system block as below picture . please check that . and if have any issue please let me know ..
