DP83867E does not have receive clock at 100Mbps in full duplex mode

We are having issues running our TI-DP83867E Ethernet PHYs at 100Mbps:

When operating at full duplex, the RGMII receive clock goes silent between packets (is not free-running).

This issue is not present at other combinations of duplex and speed.

Are you aware of any issues with the E-series chips?

This issue is not present on the DP83867IRPAPT chip.

Any help or insight here is greatly appreciated.

We are not aware of any clock or timing issues with the E-series of devices.

Do you have a schematic you can share? What link partner is the DP83867E linked to?

Rob,

I don't wish to post the schematic on the public site. However, we discovered today that the issue is only present when we connect to a network card that has “Energy Efficient Ethernet” enabled.

It certainly seems strange that we do not see similar behavior at GIGE operation when connecting to a PHY with Energy Efficient Ethernet enabled.

Would this be normal behaviour?

Hi JS,

With some EEE enabled link partners, the EEE auto-negotiation process ends up linking with our device.

Please disable EEE on the link partner OR strap the RX_CTRL pin to mode 3 as shown in the DP83867E datasheet. A future datasheet revision will make mode 1 and mode 2 N/A for this device.
