TPS65982 / USB3 Rate

Hi Team,

There is three options of "USB3 Rate" in System Configuration of TPS6598x Configuration Tool.
"USB3 not supported" or "USB3 Gen1 signaling rate supported" or "USB3 Gen2 signaling rate supported"

Why should I select although SS Mux doesn't integrated?
Could you tell me what does affect to select these?

  • Yaita-san,

You need to select this because the TPS65982 is the Type-C Port representative for the entire system. Because the entire Policy Engine is integrated into the processor, we will respond with all information related to USB PD for power, data, and video capabilities for the product.

If the USB3 pins are not routed anywhere in the system (this is allowed by the spec), then you should select USB3 Not Supported.
If an HD3SS460 is used, then USB3 Gen 1 should be selected because it is a passive mux.
If the new TUSB1046 is used, then USB3 Gen 1 & Gen 2 should be selected because it is an active re-driver.
