DS80PCI800 GEN3 operating modes setting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS80PCI800, DS80PCI810

Hi,

My customer use DS80PCI800 to do SSD array.

They wonder how to setting the mode depends on different INTEL platform.

without/with de-emphasis. or there are other setting option? And why GEN3 does not have AUTO Rate Select option?

Do you have DS80PCI800 GEN3 setting guide information?

Thanks.

  • Hi Daniel,

For PCIe applications (including Gen-3), please refer to the Application Information subsection 9.1.2 "Signal Integrity in PCIe Applications."

When using the DS80PCI800, set the RATE pin to floating so that the device operates in auto-rate detect. This way, the DS80PCI800 will adjust whether the signal travels through a limiting (Gen 1, Gen 2) or non-limiting driver (Gen 3). In both cases, de-emphasis can be used, but the effect will be more pronounced for Gen 1 and Gen 2 rates, since the signal travels through the limiting driver.

If you are operating in Gen-3 and the total amount of loss at 4 GHz is not excessively large (<30 dB loss), I recommend that your customer also consider the DS80PCI810. The DS80PCI810 is a newer generation redriver and has an advanced linear design, making it easier for redriver tuning when link-training is required.

  • Dear Michael,

    Thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Daniel,

Unfortunately, we do not have that type of information. We can only provide guidance for general redriver settings, as the EQ, De-emphasis, and VOD parameters vary from design to design, depending on the amount of insertion loss present in each particular system.
