How can I work with TPS6598x Host Interface Utility Tool ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982, TPS65982-EVM

Hi,

I installed the TPS6598x Host Interface Utility Tool with FTDI USD driver and USB Endpoint driver in Win7 64bits and Win10 64 bits platform. But the driver couldn't be recognized. The Device Manager show the driver message is  'Unknown USB Device...'.

If I installed the tool in a Win7 32bits system. The driver could be recognized. But the system couldn't run the TPS6598x Utilities GUI Application. The others Win 64bits PC are OK for this application. However, the drivers had a problem.

Pls give me advices on that. Thank you very much!

Kelvin

  • Hi Kelvin,

Could you uninstal the TPS6598x Host Interface utility tool and the FTDI CDM package drivers from your windows 7 64bit system. After that reboot the system and try to install TPS6598x Host Interface utility tool with adminstrator privillages.  Please ensure that you dont have the FTDI board connected to the system will installation is being done.

Before launching the TPS6598x Host Interface utility tool for the first time, just connect the TI's "USB2MANY" FTDI adapter board and wiat for windows to recogonise the device. Launch the application only after the drivers were recognised.

The TPS6598x Host Interface utility tool GUI application is built for a 64bit system, so you need to install the tool on  a Windows 64bit OS.

  • Hi Arun,

At the beginning, I installed the TPS6598x Host Interface utility tool without any connection to TPS6598x-EVM. And I don’t have The USB2MANY FTDI adaptor board on hand. I have a TPS6598x-EVM + USB A to C cable only.

Before launching the TPS6598x Host Interface utility tool for the first time and connect the TPS6598x-EVM to PC by using USB A to C cable only, can window recognize the device?

Or where to buy a USB2MANY FTDI adaptor board so that I can try this way?

    Thank for your help

    Kelvin

  • Hi Kelvin,

You need the US2MANY FTDI board or Aardvark FTDI board for reading the TPS6598x Registers through I2C and to flash the images over SPI. The TPS6598x-EVM doesnt have a FTDI by default and that is why you need to use a USB2MANY FTDI board or Aardvark FTDI adapter.

You can buy the Aardvark USB to I2C/SPI FTDI board from their website. As for USB2MANY FTDI board, I need to check that out.

    Regards,

    Arun

  • Hi Arun,

I understand the TPS6598x-EVM no FTDI. So I try the USB EP option. but the tps6598x_ep driver cannot work. Is it need to work with FTDI?

The other way I will buy  the TI's  USBtoMANY FTDI board. Pls give me the information of it.

    Thank for your support

    Kelvin

  • Hi Kelvin,

Currently the TPS65982-EVM doesnt support USB-EP to read registers. It will be added later. But even afterwards to burn an image into the external flash connected to the TPS65982 device, you need to use SPI or I2C. The TI's "USB2MANY" FTDI board connects to the I2C and SPI lines.

To buy the TI's "USB2MANY" FTDI board, you need to contact your local TI FAE. He/She should be to help you out with it.

    Regards,
    Arun
  • Do you give me the link so that I can buy the "USB2MANY" FTDI board online?

    Best,

    Arun

  • Hi Arun,

We bought the TPS65982-EVM, and have the same problem about FTDI adapter, is it convenient to buy USB2MANY FTDI board now? if so, can you give me the link or tell me where to buy, who to contact? Thank you very much!

    Regards,

    Ting

  • Hi Ting,

The FTDI adapter is included with the TPS65981-EVM as a break-off board.

    Thank you,
