TLK3131 Interface with laser driver/ limiting amp

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK3131, TLK10232, TLK10232EVM

I'm attempting to use this transceiver to interface between gigabit ethernet, and a MAX3798 laser driver/ limiting amp. Is there some sort of breakout that I could use to make this easier to use with a breadboard and experiment with? I'm also curious about whether or not this will require a clock input. Will I need to get a 125MHz crystal to go along with this unit?

  • Hi Brian,

Unfortunately there is not available a breakout board for this device in comparisson with another devices such as the TLK10xxx family, where the customers can purchase a daughter board to test their systems.

On the other hand, the TLK3131 contains an internal low-jitter high quality LC oscillator that may be configured as a jitter cleaner, and also, it may be used to lock the recovered byte clock from the RX channel. Is important to mention that jitter performance is optimal when using the differential REFCLK input. Hence, user could either use an external signal clock or internal.

    I hope this helps.

  • Thank you for the response. What's the daughter board called that I'd want to get with a TLK10232? I can't seem to find it.
  • Hello Brian,

When the customer purchase the TLK10232EVM, the kit contents:
    - TLK10232EVM Board
    - USB dongle
    - Voltage Monitor Board
    - SMA breakout board (OPTIONAL)

Basically, this breakout board is an optional componente, the customer must request it.

    Best Regards,
    Luis
