DS90C387/DS90CF388 Data transmission distance

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90CF388, DS90C387, DS90UB947-Q1, DS90UB948-Q1

Hi,

We are looking for the device which is available for data tarnsmission of 15m between Host and Flat Panel Display up to SXGA/1080p HD.

By using the DS90C387 and DS90CF388, Is it possible to make the data transmission of more than 15m?

Is there any other way to achieve data transmission of more than 15 m?

Best regards,
Seishin

  • Hi Seishin-san,

    If you use the DS90C387/DS90CF388, I am assuming that the SXGA (1280 x 1024) is for single-to-single operation (approximately 95 MHz clock) and 1080p HD (1920 x 1080) is for single-to-dual operation (approximately 150 MHz single pixel clock...converted to 75 MHz dual pixel clock).

    From the datasheet tables, even with the highest amount of pre-emphasis, the maximum cable length when running at the higher data rates will not likely get you to 15 m of reach. However, the values in the datasheet are taken with standard shield twisted pair cables, so if the cable quality is extremely good, then you may be able to get some extra distance. Can you provide us details and loss vs. frequency profile for the cable you plan to use?

    My thought if you need to transmit over a longer distance than can be accomplished by just the DS90C387 and DS90CF388 is to use a second set of SerDes devices to aggregate the LVDS pairs together. The DS90UB947-Q1/948-Q1 SerDes pair supports up to 15m of cable as described in their Features section.

    What do you think about the following:

    DS90C387 => DS90UB947-Q1 => Cable => DS90UB948-Q1 => DS90CF388

    Regards,
