AM26LV31E bipolar output?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26LV32E, AM26LV31E

Hello,

The AM26LV31E driver output appears to be unipolar (positive voltage only).  However, the AM26LV32E receiver shows that it receives bipolar input signals.  I’m assuming there is a mistake in the datasheet and that the 31E output is, in fact, a bipolar signal.  Is that correct?

Thanks

  • Hello,

So the output of the AM26LV31E is going to typically be 3V according to the electrical characteristics, and it converts a single ended input voltage to a differential output voltage based on the function table in the datasheet.

What this means is that for a high input voltage, the outputs Y and Z will either be 3V or 0V. Neither output voltage will be negative relative to the device ground, but the output differential voltage Y relative to Z is either +3V or -3V.

This is why the AM26LV32E must accept a positive or negative input differential voltage while the AM26LV31E can only generate a positive voltage relative to its ground.

    Best,
    Michael
