HD3SS6126 AC coupling

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS6126

Currently doing a design using a  HD3SS6126RUAR in the uplink path of a TUSB8041IRGC Hub. Port A connected to Hub uplink.

It allows the switching of USB2.0/3.0 from the Hub to two different connector points via ports B and C

Datasheet for HD3SS6126RUAR seems to indicate that signals need to be AC coupled in/out of sides A, B and C, however the evaluation board for HD3SS6126 shows no signs of AC coupling at all.

Since this is just a switch is there a need to AC couple between the Hub uplink and switch port A since this is inside our system ?

Ports B and C will AC couple on Tx pairs as this is to the outside world and Rx pairs on ports B and C will Ac couple at the host ends.

  • Hello Dan,

    THe EVM has no AC coupling because it is intended to be used between a Host board and a device board. So each board has its own AC capacitors

    HOST------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DEVICE
    Tx-->AC_caps---->USB_Connector--->USB_Cable--->HD3SS6126EVM--->USB_Cable--->USB_Connector-------------------->RX
    Rx------------------->USB_Connector--->USB_Cable--->HD3SS6126EVM--->USB_Cable--->USB_Connector--->AC_caps---->TX

    Regards,
    Diego.
