SN65LVCP114 - No HiZ on EQ pins, will it still work?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVCP114

When designing with the SN65LVCP114 using an older datasheet, there was no mention of needing 5k pullup/pulldown resistors on config pins, so the pins were left floating on a customer design. Now, the datasheet specifies to use them.

What will be the behavior if all EQ pins are left floating in GPIO mode?

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

This device has internal 48k pulup-pulldown on 3-level pins to set mid-level(Hi-Z) by default, that's why those pins could be left floated.
In the new version of DS, external strong pullup-pulldown(5k) were added to avoid any environment noise to change the configuration of the device.
Adding stronger external pullups/pulldowns is a common practice even if the device has internal pullups/pulldowns.
The voltage range for Vim=Vcc/2 +- 0.3V, you have 0.6V to handle environment noise.
Your application should work fine, if the environment is very noisy they would need to add the external stronger pullup-pulldown.
