For IEEE1588 support: Ether MAC or/and Ether PHY

Hi,

My customer would like to support for IEEE1588 on their product. (more than 32Mbps IEEE1588 support)

They are considering that with AM335x+DP83848K

According to AM335x TRM, AM335x Ether MAC is supporting for IEEE1588.

According to DP83848K Datasheet, IEEE1588 is not supported by DP83848K.

I have just a question.

If they must support for IEEE1588, do they have to change the Ether PHY device(DP83848K)?

Or, there is no problem because Ether MAC(AM335x) is supporting that?

Hi Taka,

If they use the AM335x and the DP83848K, your customer will be able to use IEEE 1588. The accuracy of the time stamping will be the same as other PHYs that do not support IEEE 1588 at the hardware level.
