SN65HVDA1040A: possibility of latch-up and hang-up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVDA1040A

Hi all,
Is there possibility of a latch-up or a hang-up of SN65HVDA1040A?

If yes,
when these problems are occurred,  does the device turn off the CAN BUS driver?
How do you reset the device from these problems?
Regards,
Toshi

  • Hi Toshi,

There is always the possibility of abnormal behavior or device damage if the the SN65HVDA1040s data sheet specifications are violated. For example the SN65HVDA1040A is rated for +/-7kV IEC ESD, if the part was subjected to an ESD stress that is outside of this range there is the possibility that the part will behave abnormally or be damages. Within the data sheet limits though we do not expect that there will be any abnormal behavior or damage to the part.

During a latch up condition I cannot say weather the CAN driver is switched off or not because the device is stuck in an indeterminate state. For a latch up condition simply power cycling the device should return the IC to its normal operating state if no permanent damage was done during the stress condition.
