Hi!

I am finishing a design where I need a direct MSP430 UART conection to the outside world.

This product will be connected to another equipment, in an automotive enviroment.

Which kind of protection do you suggest in order prevent ESD strikes.

I don't need to certify any standard, it is just for avoiding damages to my product.

Hello,

I recommend TPD1E04U04. It clamps ESD to a very low voltage (9V for 8-kV ESD) which will protect the MSP430 exceptionally well against ESD. It also offers very low capacitive loading to the UART lines of 0.5 pF. Place these close to the connector with robust ground schemes.

At $0.07 ea at 1 ku volumes it is one of our lower priced TVS. There is TPD1E05U06 at $0.05, our least expensive TVS. It clamps 8-kV ESD at 25 V and is 0.42 pF. They are both in DPY package.

ok I was looking at Digikey numbers. However, that price you are referencing is buying tge 10k reel.
By far, I'm not going to buy that amount of component because my production is not that big, sadly.
