RS485 bus converters on Different Logic configuration

Hi,

Configuration: two microcontrollers one on 3.3V logic other on 5V logic. Need RS485 Bus between two units. Can I use a single part (eg SN65hvd08), which supports both logic, or should I use level translators at logic side. kindly suggest the best alternative in terms of functionality and cost.

Hi Siddarth,

It looks like Ron already addressed your question in your other post:

I'll add that in addition to being able to use different VCC voltages on either side, it is OK to use different transceivers on either side as well. You don't need to use a transceiver that is capable of both voltages - any RS-485 transceiver (including 3.3-V-only and 5-V-only transceivers) would work.
