Logic Difference in RS485 Transceivers

Hi,

Configuration: two microcontrollers one on 3.3V logic other on 5V logic. Need RS485 Bus between two units. Can I use a single part (eg SN65hvd08), which supports both logic, or should I use level translators at logic side. kindly suggest the best alternative in terms of functionality and cost.

Siddharth,

Have you ever seen a product with a RS485 port that ever mentioned the voltage used? I haven't either.
The reason is the RS485 standard is a standard, so any two RS485 devices can talk to each other.
To understand the data exchanged does require running at the same speed.
