LVDS signal on TMDS port for TPD12S521

I was wondering if I can use the TPD12S521 IC for something else other than a video signal. I'm sending data over the HDMI cable which is not video and the signal is transmitted with LVDS. However, I still want to protect everything from ESD hence the reason to use this component. So can I put the LVDS signals on the TMDS ports and get the same signal out on the other side?

Hi Nick,

This should work as long as the LVDS signal has some common mode bias so that the signal does not swing outside of the 0-V to 5.5-V range. Also, the data rate should not exceed approximately 3 GHz, the cutoff frequency of those protection pins.

Hi Guy,

Thank you for your answer. The LVDS signal does not exceed the 0-5.5 range so that would be ok. The frequency is lower than 3Ghz so probably no problems will occur.
