LMH1980 Surge robustness on video input

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH1980

Good day,

I am using the LMH1980 in a design which requires the input to survive a 50V 5 ms surge.

Does the AC coupling through a 100nF capacitor as per the reference design provide sufficient surge reduction to protect the LMH1980?   If not please provide an indication of the surge energy that can be absorbed through the input pin voltage being higher than Vcc+0.3V without causing damage to the LMH1980.

Thanking you in advance

David

  • Other than standard ESD tolerance per LMH1980 datasheet abs max ratings, we cannot ensure tolerance against other system-level surges during operation.  For system-level surge protection, it is recommended to employ suitable surge protection TVS diodes.  Here's a link to TI's high-performance TVS diode portal: .

  • Thank you, our design does include a TVS diode. I have compared the energy dissipation between our design and the referenced ESD model and conclude our design is satisfactory.
