Chen,

The standard answer is 50 feet. However it is the capacitance of the cable that matters.

The data sheet driver timing specifications show data for 1000 pF and 2500pF.

Lower data rates support much longer cable than higher data rates.

If high speed and long cables are important, I suggest RS-485 bus instead of RS-232
