I am not really familiar with the term Intrinsic Safe, does TI actually have Intrinsic Safe USB Controller USB 2.0 solution to recommend?

Hello kpk,

I am not familiar with the intrinsic safe term, but I can recommend the TUSB7340 or TUSB7320 both are USB3 host controllers and you can use the USB2 interface only without issues.
