I have a question about DP83640EVM.

I'm thinking to use DP83640 as GrandMaster

We are planning to get DP83640EVM and have following question:
Can DP83640EVM act as Master?
We are planning to connect Slave against DP83640EVM.

    Hi g.f.,

    Two considerations for using the EVM as a master clock

    1. Check out the app notes on implementing a master using DP83640. In those app notes you'll see that an accurate PHY ref clk is needed. On the DP83640EVM, we use a regular 25MHz crystal. This is not ideal.

    2. The PTP stack still needs to run in higher layers. You will need to connect the EVM to a MAC using the MII connector.

    The EVM is capable of being a master clock, but those 2 points need to be taken into account.
