TPS6598x Configuration Tool 2.8, USB Billboard Class

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS460, TPS65982, TPS6598X-CONFIG

I tried the latest TSB65982 Application Customization Tool(2.8).
I selected TPS65982_HD3SS460_DRP_Source_Full_2_8.tpl and "USB3.x and DisplayPort" and "HD3SS460" are checked. "Thunderbolt" and "Alpine Ridge" are not checked.

Then TPS65982 EVM was connected to Windows 10 PC using C-toA cable to check the USB Billboard Class. However the TPS65982 EVM was not recognized, "!" mark was seen on Device Manager.

I attach a screenshot of the BOS descriptor.

bNumberOfAlternateModes is "0".
I think it should be 1.

When "USB3.x and DisplayPort" and "Thunderbolt" are checked, the TPS65982 EVM was properly recognized. bNumberOfAlternateMode is "2".

Could you check this?

  • Saito-san,

Thank you for identifying this. The Checkboxes when you click Project-->New Project in the new TPS6598X-CONFIG App Customization Tool v2.8 are just an option to filter down a large number of templates down to a smaller number by de-selecting check boxes that do not apply to your system. So your use of the check boxes sounds correct, but they will not have an impact on the data stored in .tpl file when you click "OK".

I verified that the .tpl has the DisplayPort Alternate Mode enabled correctly.

If you connect your product to a Type-C Laptop, are you entering DisplayPort Alt Mode correctly?

  • Brian,

The .tpl I selected worked fine as Displayport Alt mode.

But I used a Windows 10 PC which does not have a type-c in order for the TPS65982 to be able to expose USB Billboard information.

I want you to see the BOS descriptor which supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. The BOS descriptor is not correct, so the USB host does not send a Set_Configuration request but issues a usb reset.

When the .tpl is configured as DisplayPort and Thunderbolt Alt Modes, the TPS65982 correctly exposes the USB Billboard information.
