re-use DP83640 software for DP83848Q-Q1

Hi Team,

My customer evaluated DP83640 in past times and he wants to re-use its software (configuration code) for DP83848Q-Q1.

It is desirable if DP83640 can be still used but his next project is for automotive and there isn't automotive grade for DP83640, so he considers to use DP83848Q-Q1.

I believe the standard IEEE registers are common but could you tell me main difference between DP83640 and DP83848Q-Q1?
It is helpful if you also tell me tricks and traps to re-use the software (configuration code) of DP83640 for DP83848Q-Q1.

    Hi Yaita,

    You are correct that the IEEE PCS register set is the same for 10/100 PHYs. The DP83640 driver should work fine with the DP83848.
    The only thing to consider is if the driver is also doing any DP83640 specific configurations that are not supported by the DP83848. You should review the code and just note down the configuration calls it is performing and then just cross check to the DP83848 register map in the datasheet to make sure it all makes sense.
