current loading test issue on TPS65982/86

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982

Hi team

I found the TPS6598x OCP function is abnormal when setting Peak current to 130%, 150% and 200%. But the OCP function is normal if peak current=100%.

For example,

Case1:

Set the Source PDO0 = 5V/3A, PDO1=12V/3A, PDO2=20V/3A and set the peak current=130%.

Then we use a DC load(CC mode) on VBUS to sink the current. We found the TPS65982 not turn off the VBUS even the output current over 5 Amp.

Case2:

Set the Source PDO0 = 5V/3A, PDO1=12V/3A, PDO2=20V/3A and set the peak current=150% or 200%.

Then we use a DC load(CC mode) on VBUS to sink the current. We found the TPS65982 turn off the VBUS when the output current just 1.1 Amp.

I use GUI2.7 and GUI2.8 to gen the bin and test on TPS65982 EVM, the symptom are the same. Could you help to assign someone for take a look?

Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Our team is working to reproduce the issue. Could you share the flash image that you used for this test? This will help to make sure we are using the exact same configurations while trying to reproduce.

  • Hi Eric,

I was not able to replicate either issue that you are experiencing. I compiled my own 3 firmware images with the specifications that you have mentioned.

The setup I used included 2 TPS65982 boards, one configured as a source and one configured as a sink. The device under test was the source, and the sink just contained normal EVM firmware. I applied the DC load onto the sink.

    1. In the 130% configuration, the DUT (source) turned off when I applied 5A to the sink board. The voltage on VBus went from 5V to 0V.

    2. In both 150% and 200%, the DUT (source) did not turn off when 1.1A was applied. The voltage on VBus was 5V before and after the load was applied.

I have emailed you the 3 firmware images I used, please see if you can replicate the issue using my images. Also please send us the firmware you are using, I will try replicating the issue again.

  • Hi Arthur

pls test 12V/3A and 20V/3A PDO and set peak current to 130%/150 and 200%.

I attached the bin and pjt files I build from GUI V2.8. I set PDO1=12V/3A/peak current=200%; PDO2-20V/3A/peak current=200%. I use this bin on TPS65982 EVM to test VBUS output current(I did two test, one is Sink side request 12V/3A and another Sink request 20V/3A). TPS65982 turn off the VBUS from 12V/20V to 0V when output current only 1.x Amp. Pls help to check.
