TUSB1310 ULPI Only Interface

Can you update on the status of the availability of this part? You had said May but it looks like it isn't released yet. I'm not familiar with the ULPI interface but we are working on a design and their reference design is using a SMSC USB3318 which I would like to replace with a TI part but not if it's going to cause problems. We don't need the speed of USB 3.0 but the increased current capability of USB 3.0 is extremely interesting to us. I haven't had a chance to look through the USB 3.0 specs to see if the peripheral needs to be recognized as a USB 3.0 device before the host will supply 1.0A so maybe you could comment on that for me.

Thanks,

George

  • George,

Good news, we finished all of our paperwork today and it should show as ACTIVE tomorrow on ti.com.

As to the power question, to ask for the 900mA limit of USB 3.0 (note it is 900mA NOT 1A), a device must report itself as a SuperSpeed capable device and transmit data over the SuperSpeed data path (PIPE3 digital interface).  If a device enumerates as USb 2.0, it is limited to the 500mA spec of USB 2.0.
