1000base-kx to 1000base-t interface

Hello,

I´d like to connect a 1GBASE-KX bus in a backplane to a RJ45 cable (1GBASE-T). Is it necessary to use a transceiver/PHY?

Hi Julian,

1000BASE-KX does not go by the same standards as 1000BASE-T. If you can, I would suggest you connect the MAC IF portion to that of a 1000BASE-T PHY (either SGMII, RGMII, GMIII) and then output onto a CAT5 or CAT6 the 1000BASE-T signaling (PAM5).

thank you very much for your answer.

Sorry but I´m not into ethernet so still have some questions. Regarding the backplane signaling, it should be 1000base-bx (PICMG3.1) instead of 1000base-kx. Is there a device to connect the MAC portion to that of a 1000base-t PHY? I found the DP83861, would this device be suitable for my needs?

Hi Julian,

I would suggest you use the new DP83867 for any 1000BASE-T solutions.
This device supports RGMII, GMII and SGMII.
