Hi team,
I wonder if TPS6598X support try.source and try.sink mode? What should I do to enable this mode? Thanks!
Regards,
Patrick

Patrick,
The TPS65982 (and TPS65986) supports Try.Src mode as of FW release v01.11.00, and you can enable this feature in the "System Configurations" section of the TPS6598X-CONFIG Configuration Tool when you are matching the FW to your application's HW needs.
If one side of the system has Try.Src enabled (for example, a Laptop), the other end of the system has Try.Src disabled (for example, a Dock). This ensures the Laptop will try to become the Type-C source when connected to DRP Mobile phones. Since the Dock is externally powered from a AC-DC adapter, it will have "Initiate Swap to Source" enabled and the system will always resolve the correct way on the 1st plug attempt:
Support for Try.Snk is not required as the majority of TPS6598X applications are Laptops, Desktops, Power Supplies, Docks, Monitors, or High-Power USB Devices (e.g. Hard Drives) that do not contain a battery. A common application that would attempt Try.Snk would be a mobile phone.
If you believe Try.Snk is required in an application of a TPS6598X device, please respond with some details of the systems involved (block diagrams would help) to explain the logic.
Hi Brian,
Thanks for the detail explanation.
And yes I agree with you that I couldn't think of any applications requiring Try.sink except for smartphone so far. I'll let you know if I see such applications come out of the field.

Patrick
