TPS65982 0x5F bit 3 overcurrent still 0b when there's overcurrent event

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982

Hi Team,

Customer found TPS65982  0x5F bit 3 overcurrent is still 0b when there's overcurrent event

Either of below sequence the overcurrent bit is still 0

1. When TPS65982 as source and VBUS = 5V, short VBUS to GND. Then 0x5F bit 3 = 0b

2. TPS65982 set as DRP, Connect VBUS to GND with 0.89 ohm resistor, then plug in another UFP device. See VBUS = 0V, 0x5F bit 0 =1b, but bit 3 = 0b

Could you help check? Intel feedback to customer Alpine Ridge is checking 0x5F bit 3 to report overcurrent event, but currently TPS65982 is not function correctly

Thanks

Sam

  • Hi Sam,

When you did the experiment with 0.89 Ohm resistor did you see the resistor getting heated up? The resistor should have heated up and browned out. Did you connect a ammeter in series to the resistor to see the max current being drawn?

    Regards,

    Arun

  • Hi Team,
No the resistor didn't heat up because TPS65982 turned the VBUS 5V off
I didn't add ammeter to measure but the current should be 5V/0.89ohm = 5.61A

Could product line verify on how this bit will be triggered and try modify FW to have it work when overcurrent?
As it said "overcurrent", customer would expect any over current event will have this bit be high

    Thanks
    Sam
