SN65HVD62 back to back

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD62

Can 2 SN65HVD62 devices be connected back to back (RXOUT device 1 to TXIN device 2, and RXOUT device 2 to TXIN device 1) in order to tap the OOK transmission or possibly fan out the transmission to several 50 ohm drops?

I tried it with my evm board, but it appears to be keep transmitting after the first data transmission.

Thanks,

Doane

  • Hi Doane,

Just to clarify - you are connecting the RF interface (TXOUT/RXIN) of each HVD62 to a separate cable, right? If so, I can't think of why this would not be working. Could you probe the TXOUT/RXOUT/DIR pins of each device to see which mode the devices are in? They should either both be "idle" or you should have one in "receive" mode while the other is in "transmit" mode. There is a description of these modes beginning on page 14 of the datasheet for your reference.

  • Hi Max,

Correct. I inserted the devices between 2 communicating AISG devices. The RF interface of one device is connected to the downstream side and the other RF interface is connected to the upstream side.

I will check the DIR pins to verify the mode of each device. Also, I'll makes sure of the jumper settings.

Do I need pull-up or pull-down resistors on the TXIN and RXOUT pins?
  • Hi Max,

The parts work perfectly. I had two bad connections in my set-up. Thank you for referring me to the description of the modes. It helped me quickly spot my errors.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Doane
  • That's good to hear - thanks for the update! To answer your other question: no, pull-up/down resistances are not required on the logic I/O pins for this device (the outputs can drive both high and low states).

Let me know if you have any other questions as you proceed with your design.

    Best regards,
    Max
