Can TCA9617B be used on an MDIO interface?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9617B

Hello,

Is it possible to use the TCA9617B device to buffer and voltage translate an MDIO interface (3.3V and 2.5V).

Thanks

Ro.

  • Hi Ro,

Thanks for the question, I can confirm that you can use MDIO interface with our I2C buffers as it is an open drain interface. Just keep in mind that the data is 2 bytes.

Also MDIO requires a pull-up resistance of 1.5kohm to 10kohm, taking into account the total worst-case leakage current of 32 PHYs and one MAC.

Make sure they are falling within our speed spec (400kHz max) as MDIO can go up to about 2.4MHz.

    Thanks,
    Siby
  • Hi Siby,

    Thanks for the response.

Does TI have a faster similar buffer I could use on an MDIO interface?

    Thanks

    Ro
