TPS65986EVM with the built-in firmware configurations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65986EVM

Customer is using the TPS65986EVM up and running with the built-in firmware configurations.  He is  thinking about modifying that firmware to support our needs and he is  a little confused as to what else he needs.

In the EVM Users Guide it talks about a USB2MANY-EVM.  However, in looking online for that there are some TI forum references to that EVM’s name being changed to USB-C-PD-INT-EVM.  Other forums talk about an Aardvark board.  Could you clarify which hardware he needs to work with the TPS6598x Utilities GIU to facilitate modifying and downloading that code?  Thanks for your help.

  • Hi,

To modify the firmware configuration you need the following tools and boards,

    Software Tools

    1) TPS6598x Application customization Tool  - You can open one of the default templates for TPS65986 under 'New Projects' section and modify it as per the customers requirement. Once done, save the binary & project files.

    2) TPS6598x Utilities GUI Tool - You can use this tool to download the saved binary to TPS65986 EVM using SPI and read back the configurations set to confirm if new configurations have been applied.

    Hardware Tools

    1) Aardvark  - Use the Aardvark to connect the SPI, I2C lines to TPS65986 EVM.

    or

    2) USB2MANY - Follow the instructions in EVM user guide to download the firmware to the TPS65986 EVM if you have USB2MANY FTDI board with you.
