lan8710 vs ksz8081

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848I, DP83867IR

Hi!

I'm designing an industrial controller with Sitara CPU and recently used LAN8710 for Ethernet and it was fine. Now some of my projects got KSZ8081 PHY and I wonder which of both are better in comparison to each other. I know this questions is to general, but I don't have any experience working with KSZ8081 PHY while worked a lot with LAN8710

Thanks for sharing your opinion!

  • Hello Maxim,

Could you elaborate more on the application and project timeline? I would also be interested to know what features of the PHY are important for your design.

Since this is a forum for TI Ethernet Transceivers, the question might a little out of scope here. I can try to recommend devices from our portfolio which can best suit your design. DP83848 is an industry gold standard with multiple variants. It has different MAC interface support, power down mode, low active power consumption and excellent ESD & EMC performance.

DP83848I can be a good starting point for industrial application. We also have the DP83867IR for Gigabit Industrial Ethernet.

  • Hello Aniruddha!

I'm designing a HVAC controller connected to an Ethernet switch. There aren't any special requirements for the application but the cost of every part is taken into consideration. I can see DP83848 PHY is twice expensive in comparison to LAN8710 and I can't accept it. I have already had negotiations with a local TI representative for better pricing but they can't give so low price as Microchip (SMSC) gives
  • Hi Maxim,

Understood. In that case, I would recommend engaging with the manufacturers of the respective PHYs for further questions.
