TUSB7320's default configration & Crystal selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB7320, TUSB7340

Hi Team,

Could you kindly help to check below 2 items about TUS7320's configration & input clock's crystal selection:

  • If accept use TUS7320’s default configuration, whether it means don’t need to add EEPROM or use host’s BIOS to program any register of TUSB7320?

  • Based on the default configuration above, if change the input clock(XI/XO) from 48MHz crystal to be 24MHz crystal, whether don't need to change anything of the SW/HW?

Many thanks!

  • Hello,
    1. Correct, the external EEPROM is optional, the TUSB7340 can fully work without EEPROM, the tUSB7340 will be configured by the PCIe and xHCI drivers of the operating system.
    2. You should use only 48MHz.
    Regards
  • Hello Elias,

Appreciate for your response and explaination,   but for item 2 below:

'2. You should use only 48MHz'

could you kindly help to double check and confirm that: If use TUSB7320's default configration without EEPROM, does only 48MHz crystal can be used or both 24MHz & 48MHz can be used?

BTW, some more information is for the crystal's frequency selection, I noted there is a revision of TUSB7320's datasheet(Section-4 /P2; Section-7.3.2 /P14 ) that:

And TUSB7320 datasheet P15 of using the default configration without EEPROM, also didn't mentioned must be 48MHz crystal, so want to double check with you  and many thanks.

  • Hello,
We are looking at this, it is probably a typo.
