M-LVDS distance between nodes?

Hi,

I'm new in M-LVDS design and I've got next doubt.

I'd would like to know if it's possible to get 10 Mbps and which is longest distance between nodes in M-LVDS?. The maximum distance between the emitter and the last node is 10 meters and each node is separated each 40 cm. Each node has two RJ-45 jacks closer, and the connection between nodes is wired with UTP CAT5 cable.

Jose,

The overall length and distance between MLVDS receiver nodes would be compatible with 10 Mbps signaling rates. I would just make sure that you consider the "stub" length at each of the receiver nodes. A long stub length can have many negative effects on a multi-drop application like you are describing.

For a 10 Mbps application, MLVDS should work well with a 0.5cm stub length and 40cm load spacing.

Is possible to get this speed, in the same conditions, with flat ribbon cable Instead of using en ethernet cable?

Jose,

The speed with flat ribbon cable should be the same. As long as the ribbon cable is manufactured to have a 100 ohm characteristic impedance.
