TPS65982 DP VDM

Hi Team,

I get below DP VDM from the CC Analyzer. But I can not find any explanation of these messages in the Type-C or PD2.0 Spec. For example, what is the meaning of DFP_D? Would you tell me where to find the explanation?

Best Regards

Nic

  • Hi Nic,

This log shows alternate mode communication to enable DisplayPort feature.

DFP_D means the device is configured in Downstream facing display port and UFP_D means Upstream facing display port.

You can refer VESA and USB PD spec to learn more about these terminologies.

    Thanks,

    Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

I have got the DisplayPort v1.3 Spec. But I still can not find any explanation of the grey VDO(DP Status Cmd & DP Configure Cmd)shown above.
What's the definition of the terminologies such as Con, Pow Low, Adaptor Func, Multi-Func, USB Config, Exit DP, HPD State, IRQ_HPD, etc. ?

    Best Regards

  • Hi Nic,

Please check "Section G. VDM Command Examples" of USB PD spec.

Some of the terminologies which I remember is as follows:
Exit DP: This command says to exit the DP mode
HPD: Short form of Hot Plug Detect, this signal indicates whenever a display device gets connected to the system
HPD State: says current state of HPD
IRQ_HPD: the interrupt which deals with HPD event

    Thanks,
    Rahul
  • Hi Rahul,

"Section G. VDM Command Examples" just contains commands that defined in the PD Spec. SVID specific commands can not be found in the PD Spec.

    Best Regards
