TUSB542 AC Coupling Capacitors

Hello,

I noticed that AC coupling capacitors are present on the RX-AP+/- pins on page 16 of the datasheet.    But these capacitors are not present on the EVM.

Are these required?

    Hello Donald,

    The capacitors are not present on the EVM because it has the USB3 connector, therefore the missing capacitors are present on the Host board. meanwhile the DS shows an application with direct connection between the Host and the TUSB542, where both pairs of AC capacitors are present. This is OK and specified by the USB specification, in fact it is the same reason why we only have AC capacitors on the TX lines on the Type-C connector side.
