Issue with CAN BUS with more than 12 SN65HVD230

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD230

Hi;

In one of our CAN systems we have 26 nodes using SN65HVD230 in a linear/daisy-chained topology with both ends of the BUS terminated with 120 Ohm resistors. During troubleshooting we found out that with more than 12 SN65HDV230s, we are not seeing any activity on the BUS.

Is there a limit for the SN65HVD230s quantities on the BUS?

Regards;

Karo

P.S. CAN BUS length is: 30 Inches.

  • Karo,

    This thread has been moved to Industrial Interface forum for more appropriate support.

  • Hi Karo,

    Thank you for the question!

    This sounds strange to me though as the SN65HVD230 supports a large number of nodes on a bus due to its high input impedance which limits the leakage current. Is there anything on your bus besides the 120 ohm termination resistors that could be effecting the performance of the bus once a more and more nodes are added (i.e. series resistors or diodes)? Is it possible for you to capture bus wave-form's of the it working and not working?
