Magnetics design issue of DP83848Q

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848K, DP83848I

Hi TI experts,

at page 63 of data sheet of DP83848Q, there is a list of recommended transformers.

I check the data sheet of Pulse H1102 and there is a difference with the data sheet of DP83848Q.

in Figure. 6-2 of data sheet of DP83848Q, the RD- signal from DP83848Q goes to the pin with starting wiring black round circle of T1,

and in data sheet of Pulse H1102, the RD- signal goes to the pin w/o starting wiring black round circle.

Please help me to identify which one is correct ?

please be noted that you could download the data sheet of Pulse H1102 from the link ,

regards,

Jack

  • Hi Jack,

Both are correct. For simplicity of the schematics, you can follow the circle scheme in the Pulse transformer schematic.

  • Hi Rob,
Thanks a lot for your explanation, now I already got more understanding of the signal connections between PHY chip and the transformer no matter it's DP83848Q, DP83848k or DP83848I , I put a short summary as following, please correct me if it's wrong.
    1. There is not any rule said it should be TD+ or TD- (RD+ or RD-) be connected to the pin of transformer with dot indication.
    2. There is a rule said if TD+ be connected to the pin of transformer with dot indication then the other set of signal should be RD+ be connected to the pin of transformer with dot indication, it should not be RD-.
    regards,
    Jack
  • Hi Jack,

Your points 1 and 2 are correct.
