SN65HVD230 query

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD230

Hi,

We are using the SN65HVD230 devices in a distributed control system. The datasheet specifies that the device will handle hot plugging and unpowered nodes.

The problem we are having is that when one node on the system is unpowered, power is being feed through the CANH line into the unpowered node partially running up the board. Is this device not designed to stop bus to VCC leakage happening? The current is normally in the order of 0.5mA which is mildly acceptable. Although more worrying on some occassioans when the unpowered node has been on and is depowered it appears to latch on with the help of the CANH connection and a current of 15mA flows from CANH into the unpowered node. We believe this phantom power is the cause of us detroying three JTAG units. We now power down the whole system before inserting our JTAG but would like to understand and resolve this problem.

Thanks,

Shane

  • This issue is also dealt with in the internal forum. Also lab tests have shown that under the mentioned conditions, the measured leackage current was far below the specified data sheet value. as mentioned before we would require the actual board to assure that our tests meet your exact conditions.
