DS90UB914A concept review request

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB964-Q1

Dear team,

The customer consider use 3ea camera system. but their processor have only 1ch input port(RGB888). so please review below block whether below concept operate well or not.

If below concept is not possible, please could you recommend 3:1 MUX device or 3ch HUB deserializer device? I knew DS90UB964-Q1 is 4ch camera HUB but it have CSI-2 output format but the customer processor do not support CSI-2 format. Theri format can support parallel output format.

Please review customer request and let me know your opinion.

Thank you.

  • Hello Nam,

There is a possibility of this working, however I have a question: Does the customer hope to use all of these cameras simultaneously or one at a time? I believe from your question, they only hope to have one camera outputting at a time.

If possible, it is recommended to find a processor that has 2 or 3 inputs for parallel/LVCMOS data instead of just 1. The setup you have above could work, assuming that data from camera 1 and 2 are muxed at 914A input. The only problem you will need to be careful of is designing the parallel trace impedances on the 914A output side. When Camera 1 or 2 are sending data into the processor, there will be a huge stub on these high-speed output lines from the 914A since there are also LVCMOS output traces connected to the other 914A device which is linked to camera 3. You might need current damping resistors to account for the signal reflections on these lines. I would not be too worried about ROUT[0:11] or even HSYNC or VSYNC outputs since these outputs are in high KHz/low MHz range (1-3 MHz). What I would be concerned about is PCLK trace which has potential for lots of reflections since speed of PCLK signal is typically much higher (i.e. PCLK = 100 MHz).

I would follow up with the clocks and retimers group to understand if there is an automotive 3ch Mux that fits your design. There should be as I believe customers have used one in the past for a setup such as this.

  • Hello Sean,

You are right. The customer hope to have one camera outputting at a time. Is there any update about automotive 3ch Mux? I did not find solution to switch 3 LVDS signal.

    Thank you for your support.
