Latency of DP83822i Clarification

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83822I, TLK106

Hello,

I have a question about the TLK106 and the DP83822i and the wording of the datasheet:

"The TLK106 datasheet indicates that is has  “Low deterministic latency supports IEEE1588 implementation”.

The DP83822I has Start of frame detect for IEEE1588 time stamp.  Is this to say also that is has “low deterministic latency supports IEEE1588 implementation” or is this a separate thing i.e. timing is not deterministic and the time stamp has to be used?"

Can you please clarify to me the above? Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Eric

  • Hi Eric,

The DP83822 does have low deterministic latency. But it also has an additonal SFD indicator which can be routed to a GPIO pin. The MAC can use this GPIO pin to timestamp a packet. This makes the DP83822 better suited for IEEE1588 implementation.
