Measurement method on Input signal of SN75LVCP601

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75LVCP601

Hello team,

Could you tell me how to measure the input signal of SN75LVCP601 to evaluate the signal integrity? The customer wants to measure the input signal with a probe and instrument, 1169A, DSA91304A 13GHz, respectively, and he can't get a input signal at the nearest point of SN75LVCP601 as possible. In order to evaluate the signal integrity on SATA, so, where should we probe at as the measurement point? The datasheet at page 11 shows the compliance point is  far from SN75LVCP601 by 8""6 mil stripline. Doesn't he need to measure the signal at nearest point as possible?

Best regards,

Takeshi Sasaki

  • Hi Takeshi,

Signal is measured close to Rx of SATA redriver to determine how much EQ is needed,

Signal is measured close to Rx of device/host to see if the signals integrity is good enough

Signal could be measured close to Tx of device/host to check if it is coming goo enough for transmission,

Signal could be measured close to Tx of redriver to check the change in de-emphasis, de-emphasis width is taking effect.

Commonly this measurements are done close to connector, datasheet has 4 test points to compare the signal in the whole path, the test was don with char boards as example, this doesn't mean you have to use that trace lengths.

  • Hi Moises,

Thank you for your comments. I understood. I'll explain where should the customer measure the signal at with what purpose.
