TLK10022 REFCLK IN different boards

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10022, TLK10002, CDCM6208

Hi,

I want to use two TLK10022 in two boards and delivery 10G signal. But I don't know how to design the REFCLK. I see in a ducoment in TI website named"tidu689.pdf", the test report likes below:

So the two Clock Generators are not on one board, how to make sure the OUTPUT is same as the INPUT of TLK10022? I mean the REFCLK has no relationship with the INPUT&OUTPUT, it provides REF clock for each TLK10022's internal clock source. Yes or no?

At least please help to certain one thing: different clock generators for 2 TLK10022 on 2 boards is ok or not? It doesn't require REF clock must be the same one?

     Thanks you very much!

  • Hello,

If you use the CTC (Clock Tolerance Compensation) function and have a local REFCLK you don't need a jitter cleaner. On the other hand, if you use a clock generator and jitter cleaner you should use the same reference clock. We recommend using a clock synthesizer IC along with a crystal or crystal oscillator to provide a low-jitter differential clock signal to the REFCLK inputs. Examples would include CDCM6208 or one of the LMK series of devices from SVA. Here is an application note that talks about the combined performance of CDCM6208 with TLK10002: www.ti.com/.../scaa122.pdf
