There isn't any information about VSS (ground pin) in "PIN FUNCTIONS" table for PNP (HTQFP) package in XIO2001 datasheet.

Should I connect thermal pad as VSS to ground plane ?

PowerPAD™ Layout Guidelines (SLOA120) says that "the thermal pad is usually tied to ground". But we don't know whether the XIO is an unusual device.

This information is missing from the datasheet.

If you have a chip, use a continuity tester.

Thanks for you findings, yes, you should connect thermal pad to Vss.
