TPS65982 / OvpUsage in 0x28 (System Configuration) Register

Guru 29720 points

Hi Team,

Host Interface Technical Reference Manual (page 23) shows the following.
http://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/ug/slvuan1/slvuan1.pdf
------------------------------------------------------
OvpUsage
01b: If VBUS voltage exceeds the expected maximum voltage on VBUS by more than 5% it will be disconnected from the input rails to protect the system.
------------------------------------------------------

Could you tell me the register that determine above "the expected maximum voltage"?

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hi Yatira,

Please check the Bits 21:16 of 0x28 System Configuration Register. It defines the setting for Over Voltage Trip point. It can set trip point from 4.16V to 24V.

Bits 23:22 OvpUsage can be used to apply an addition relaxation on top of "Over Voltage Trip Point".

    Thanks,

    Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

Thank you for your support, however I would like to confirm just in case.

Why does the following definition use the word not "OvpTripPoint" like 00b but "the expected maximum voltage on VBUS" for 01b, 10b, 11b?

It appears something like "OvpTripPoint" isn't available if Ovpusage is set other than 00b..

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • May I have comments about it?

    Yaita

  • Hi Yaita-san,

The OvpTripPoint can be configured in the control configurations as mentioned by Rahul. However, if you do not want to use the OvpTripPoint to dicsonnect VBUS, you can use the 5% 10% or 15% of expected max. If you are in a 20V PD contract, 15% over expected max would be roughly 23V.

    Thank you,
    Eric
